Run Silent Run Deep

(Doug Hayman)

My father served in submarines in the early part of his career in the Navy. A few years after leaving the USS Scorpion, it went down in the Atlantic taking the lives of all onboard in 1968.
Run Silent, Run Deep by Doug Hayman 2-15-2009

Cold war warrior, answered when duty called
And when you couldn't fly, you found another way

Run silent, run deep
There are secrets you've got to keep
They won't know that you're on their tail
A nation praying that you won't fail

Those days are past and gone, walls been torn down
Those A-bombs didn't drop, we're still around

Run silent, run deep
There are secrets you've got to keep
In the darkness below the waves
Ninety-nine lay in their deep sea graves

Young mother all alone, three kids in tow
She can't know why you left, or where you'll go.................[last chord lingers before bridge]

Bridge ¾ time
Em-C-Bm-Am [2x]
Dark black car, don't stop here
Dark black car, don't stop here
Don't want no chaplain, knocking on our door
Don't want no chaplain, knocking on our door
We just want to see our father again
We just want to see our father again, again

Instrumental bridge
Em-C-Bm-Am [7x]
Em-C-Bm-C-D [linger on last D before switch back to 4/4 time]

Run silent, run deep
There were secrets we had to keep
Kept them bottled up deep inside
It left us wondering if you'd die
Left us wondering if you'd die
Children watching watching their mother cry
When she couldn't keep it all inside
But you made it home alive
Glad you, you survived
We're still alive
